Los Angeles is spending $40,000 per mile to paint streets white — and it could have a surprising ripple effect on the city

The lighter-colored streets actually reflect the sun’s rays and help keep LA cool.

Wow and downtown LA of all places sure needs to keep the city cool. I think there may be an entire day or two during the year that it’s up over 90. And I don’t believe that reflecting the sunlight off the streets will make the city that much cooler.

Where do they think the sunlight will then go? Do they think that it will just evaporate? It’s going to hit the sides of buildings. It is going to go into office windows. It is going to go into home windows. It is going to absorb into the sides of homes. I don’t believe that reflecting the sunlight back up and all around will make that much difference to the heat island effect. What we need to be doing IMO is planting trees and using solar systems that absorbs the heat-the sunlight- and turns it into something useful not just bouncing it around. Just my 2cents

They couldn’t possibly use $40,000 _per mile_ 😮 for some programs that support the massive, massive, massive, homeless population. Na cuz we all know it’s the homeless people’s fault that they’re homeless.

Best
