Investigation of acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) in U.S. children, 2014-2016.
386 and counting.
This year, more than half of all US states have had confirmed or possible cases of acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM, the polio-like illness that can cause paralysis and mostly affects children, according to a new CNN analysis.

I have speculated recently that as the portion of our population that has natural immuninity to a disease ages and dies off that the fraction of our population that has only been vaccinated becomes the dominant fraction and this may be a problem.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked disease caused by mutations in the DMD gene and loss of the protein dystrophin. The absence of dystrophin leads to myofiber membrane fragility and necrosis, with eventual muscle atrophy and contractures. Affected boys typically die in their second or third decade due to either respiratory failure or cardiomyopathy. Despite extensive attempts to develop definitive therapies for DMD, the standard of care remains prednisone, which has only palliative benefits. Animal models, mainly the mdx mouse and golden retriever muscular dystrophy (GRMD) dog, have played a key role in studies of DMD pathogenesis and treatment development. Because the GRMD clinical syndrome is more severe than in mice, better aligning with the progressive course of DMD, canine studies may translate better to humans. The original founder dog for all GRMD colonies worldwide was identified in the early 1980s before the discovery of the DMD gene and dystrophin. Accordingly, analogies to DMD were initially drawn based on similar clinical features, ranging from the X-linked pattern of inheritance to overlapping histopathologic lesions. Confirmation of genetic homology between DMD and GRMD came with identification of the underlying GRMD mutation, a single nucleotide change that leads to exon skipping and an out-of-frame DMD transcript. GRMD colonies have subsequently been established to conduct pathogenetic and preclinical treatment studies. Simultaneous with the onset of GRMD treatment trials, phenotypic biomarkers were developed, allowing definitive characterization of treatment effect. Importantly, GRMD studies have not always substantiated findings from mdx mice and have sometimes identified serious treatment side effects. While the GRMD model may be more clinically relevant than the mdx mouse, usage has been limited by practical considerations related to expense and the number of dogs available. This further complicates ongoing broader concerns about the poor rate of translation of animal model preclinical studies to humans with analogous diseases. Accordingly, in performing GRMD trials, special attention must be paid to experimental design to align with the approach used in DMD clinical trials. This review provides context for the GRMD model, beginning with its original description and extending to its use in preclinical trials.
My wife died of muscular dystrophy and adored the care dogs visiting her in the hospital and rehab hospitals. She would be appalled that we are using animals particularly dogs this way. And I can’t speak for the men that get this particular genetic variant, but I believe that if it was me, that I would not wish it on another living animal. Specifically breeding animals to live in suffering and then torture them while they’re suffering in order to do “science” is ….
I am a microbiologist and bacterial geneticist. I have killed an awful lot of bacteria in my day. But to do this to a living, breathing, animal with a brain and a nervous system is ….
I am speechless.
Researchers at Cornell University found glyphosate in all 18 ofthe dog and cat food brands they surveyed, including one product that was certified GMO-free.
I have posted before that it’s likely to have been injuring your dogs and cats. And I hope everyone reading this understands that gmo-free is not organic and not likely to be herbicide free. It’s just a marketing ploy. And also that organic itself has a lot of toxins sprayed on it. The agro-chemical companies have just had those toxins approved for “organic”.

Most of the victims were teens and kids, said Ventura County Fire officials.

Chlorine gas likely. In 10 years when some of them become breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, or gallbladder cancer statistics no one will ever be able to trace it back. And I really don’t understand people chlorinating their swimming pools.
The FDA warned pet owners on Thursday that some flea and tick medicine could cause neurologic adverse events for dogs and cats.

In the first papers from NASA’s Cassini mission’s Grand Finale, scientists describe unexpectedly complicated phenomena found in the gap between Saturn and its rings.

From an origin of Life perspective. One of the most important aspects of Gunter Wachtershauser‘s fantastic Theory is a stable source of heat and chemically reactive gases. The generation of heat (20 Earth sized power plants!) in Saturn’s atmosphere is very intriguing to me
Saturn is wrapped in bands of winds, with the one at the equator traveling fastest and those to the north and south moving more slowly. When a loop-like structure of magnetic field aligns so that one end is in that equatorial band and the other is not, the equatorial wind tugs at the charged particles of plasma around it, which in turn skews the magnetic-field line.
The result that Cassini measured is an electric current as strong as 20 large terrestrial power plants combined. As a side effect, that current also produces heat in the atmosphere around it, which may help explain a long-standing mystery about Saturn. “One of the enigmas of Saturn’s thermosphere is, it’s hotter than expected,” Krishan Khurana, a magnetosphere scientist at the University of California, Los Angeles, and lead author on the paper, told Space.com. “This provides a part of the answer.”

Source: Research finds that low concentrations of pesticides can become toxic mixture
“Endosulfan appears to be about 1,000-times more lethal to amphibians than other pesticides that we have examined,” Relyea said. “Unfortunately, pesticide regulations do not require amphibian testing, so very little is known about endosulfan’s impact on amphibians
Wow I didn’t know that our EPA doesn’t even require testing on amphibians. Wow.
The epidemic that put Latin America on high alert has left open questions about its causes and the accumulation of economic interests that have converged around the scourge
Also from the same source:
As in our neighbouring countries, many epidemics are associated with insect vectors, followed by a lucrative strategy of pesticides-resistance-more pesticides. These same epidemics are often attributed to a virus, although this is not always [scientifically] demonstrated, but is quickly proposed in order to develop the vaccine panacea.
Hmmmmm very interesting.
